I did a little bit of accuracy testing with this DPMS AR15. Most recently I took it out to Front Sight for their 4 Day Practical Rifle course which I highly recommend. I was fortunate enough and able to graduate with a Distinguished Graduate level and out shot everyone else there on the skills test. The rifle is 100% able to withstand and perform as needed whenever I need it.

Add-ons that I put on after market.

Steadfast Shooter

what foregrip is that? please respond.

My gripe is the barrel isn't chrome-lined.

Keith Whisman

You don't have to know what everything is to say the gun appears to be the same as what other companies charge for their carbon 15's but your's is all metal and runs like a champ.

Phillip Le

matt hofstad

the locking plate you have works best with single point slings

Ya from what i can see that is a really good price. i have thousands of rounds through mine now with both brass and steel cased. never a FTF, FTE or other issues. it's very accurate even out to 400 yards. that's the farthest that i've shot it and i was hitting human sized targets with just the red dot on top. i love this rifle.

good to know about hole in gas block. why wouldn't you compare it to better quality rifles? obviously there is no question that DPMS is not an LWRC or Smith and Wesson. That's the point is that they are more affordable and so they're not as nice. it's like a ferrari compared to a honda. both work great and work well but one is prettier than the other. that's the point i'm getting at in the vid. thanks for the comment.

Michael Burch

Has a front MBUS but no rear?

my panther is pretty nice! need to get more trigger time in. I would like it if we have shooting at targets at higher range than 50 meters on the utubes vids.

Dr Deth Punkenstien

Bought mine from academy sports. Took home, broke down, clean and prepped. Used 1 time at range, kept jamming? Gunsmith at range said maybe because it was new and needed breaking in. Every fifth round. Second time at range and now will not fire. Gunsmith at range broke it down and, ran gauge thru housing, said housing was set too deep and trigger pin was no longer hitting firing caps. Tried five different ammos and three different magazines not a dent on firing cap.
Without gun sent to “thier” repairman and waiting for it back. 500 + dollars and 1 run to wait weeks most likely. Glad I was not in a emergency situation.

And i bought mine for 399

Bill Kilgore

No problems what so ever with my Oracle.  I changed out the forearm, and stock for a quad rail and a magpul CTR stock.. Added a Primary arms micro dot, magpul backup sights, magpul Bad lever and a magpul AFG.  i also added a single point sling attachment.

Put well over 5k through the gun and its a dream.  I have GI mags, P Mags, the DPMS mag, and a couple other type mags and none ever jammed up.

Just clean it and shoot it.

blah blah

what size is that quad rail? how do you like that gun so far? im looking to buy one soon

glad i could help. my dad has the S&W sport that you're talking about. he likes it a lot too. i prefer mine because it does have the tiny extras like the forward assist, dust cover and shell deflector. mine was from "surplus ammo.com" i got it for $555 about. last i checked they were up to around $670 or so. so either at a gun show or online somewhere is where you're gonna get the best price. let me know if i can do anything else.

Carl Pallini

I have this same rifle and it is excellent-super accurate, well finished and functional!

Sam Buffington

2 quick things, 1. the heavier bullet (65gr) would drop more so that isnt the reason the steal case rounds dropped more 2. to continue on your accuracy test, did you do the steal rounds from cold bore and the brass right after sighting it in?? cause i think that could have something to do with it.

Mine wasn't very hard to do. i had to create my own little device but buying one makes it much easier. i'd add the link for the handguard remover tool in the description. If you've already tried that then my only recommendation would be a bit more elbow grease.

Great review. I think I'll pick one up. I love the attitude too.

"Beer And Bones"

Cool, good to know.. Thanks fo the reply.

matt hofstad

Just wondering but why do you only have a front back up sight?

Yuri Kutuzov

Nice one there, you got the same one I got. I'm also using Bushnell for my red dot and Aim Sport drop in quad rail handguard.

like the video, I have the same rifle, i put a scope on mine though. I love this rifle and I would buy another one. have not had any trouble out of the stssl case ammo.(tulammo)

And it was brand new never fired...

These are what they should be a 16 in barrel battle rifle should be cheap accurate and reliable .No these are not LWRC but a LWRC is not a Les Baer . .A camaro is not a Silverodo so don't try to haul a couch on a Camaro . Good review thanks

Jappy Occor

DPMS Oracle is chambered for 5.56mm and .223 cal....

@NiveKMusiC as mentioned i bought the rifle all put together. however i added on the quadrail. that was the main difference of what i changed. everything else are just add-ons. recoil pad, sling, spray painting, back up sights, red dot, sling attachment, gripod, are all extra things. so it was not a build.

when i made the review i was doing a few different things with my sights and the rail and i hadn't put my rear sight back on yet

@theemortaldragon. Lucky! I'm living in Maryland where it'll be illegal soon.

sorry for how long it took me to get back to you about the quad rail. i went ahead and added a link in the description of the video so you can go directly to the same one that i bought. hope that helps.

Nice rifle. Good review. For future reference its called a buffer tube. Keep up the good work.

My buddy bought one of these during "The Scare" and payed almost a grand. I showed him an ad recently for the rifle at $579.99. He flipped! He asked,"I bought a crappy rifle, didn't I?". I couldn't help but laugh at that. I reminded him that he fired his Oracle when I was sighting my AKM in. Not one hiccup. Yeah, I built my M4 and I did pick and choose my components, like Eli Wallach in "The Good, Bad and the Ugly". But, I think his DPMS is fine. Used that crappy stock for a swing target.

lol ya what's new. i'm looking at the Huldra Arms 5.45x39 now. that's what i'm saving up for. that and the Mossberg 930 SPX

it's called a grip-pod. i like it a lot. they usually go for $50-70 at gun shows. i got mine on amazon i think from tapco, not sure. just search on amazon for grip pod it was about $15.

Zeon man

Thanks for the review dude. I think Im going to purchase one in the near future. Have been bouncing back and forth from getting the S&W M&P15 sport and think the oracle may be a good choice. Really liked how you showed the shot test with steel and brass casing along with the grain amounts. Give a nice perspective on how different rounds work for the rifle, especially for a newb like me.

Cmpunk1975 If u put a little blue locktight on the allen sc

As I was saying. on the screws and then re-tightin the screws it won't come lose. My DPMS did it for awhile.

Could you send me that link as well? Just got this rifle and this review covered exactly what I needed covered

Very nice video.  Thanks for the thorough review.  I just purchased one, but haven't shot it yet.  I'm looking forward to it.

have you had any issues with the gas block? I've been reading lately about set screws coming loose.

hey what iron sights r u using? how accurate is the iron sights since the rails aint lined up straight with the gas block? i read that the gas block tends to melt the front sight is this true?

Local monthly gun shows are selling this for 699.00 out the door

i can send you a link for the rail i bought if you want. it's a perfect fit and came with 12 rail covers.

Beau B

Next time you finish firing put the weapon on safe. You checked your mag but didn't check the chamber. Keep your booger hook off the bang switch until you are ready to fire.

That "hole for excess gas" is the pin to hold your gas tube in......learn what things are before you give a review. And its a bird cage or a2 flash hidder.

thanks! nope i haven't had one single hiccup yet. i've owned the gun for a few months now and have probably 1000 rounds through it. mainly steel cased ammo becasue it's cheaper. brass obviously is much more accurate than steel cased. it seems to favor 62grain ammo over 55 grain ammo, but i still shoot both. i highly recommend it.

Where did you get your quad rail?

Thanks for sharing. Excellent demonstration.

i haven't had any problems with the grip pod yet. i handle it pretty rough too. sometimes the screw thing comes lose on bottom but i tighten it down so it stops doing that.

James Flayler

Im looking to find out who he bought from too. Alot of peeps are leaving bad reviews for many buyers on amazon b/c they have picatinny rail accessories that wont go on /weaver rails...and alot of sellers are selling"/weaver/picatinny" rails. Ive been researching this all night and havent bought yet.... Cmon Mrcollegeprepper help us ignorant people out!!1 :)

J Munoz

Good to know it likes steel cased ammo. dont mind the accuracy since im going to be shooting at paper in a indoor range. not trying to snipe down zombies yet.

sorry for how long it took me to get back to you about the quad rail. i went ahead and added a link in the description of the video so you can go directly to the same one that i bought. hope that helps.

that's good to know that you've put that many rounds through it. i've never had a my gas block come lose though. dunno what would cause that.

J Munoz

Good vid. Just started my AR research. I really want to get one but don't want to break the bank lol. This model seems to work for me prize wise. How has it been holding up? Any issues yet?

mine holds up just fine. i've done a couple of mag dumps just for fun with it and i never had an issue. this gun seriously has performed brilliantly ever since I bought it. i have never had one hiccup.

Janloy Quintero

Great review!

how do you like the light contour barrel? Do you get heat stringing issues if you do several mag dumps? I like the idea of how light it is but I am trying to figure out how it will perform, great video.

"Beer And Bones"

Whats up buddy, Hey how does that barrel hold up? Does it melt under rapid fire? or is it pretty nice? Im always hearing people talk bad about the dpms and the barrels. I knw its an entry level rifle, but on the other hand I hear great reviews on dpms. Just wondering, thanks

i'm sorry to hear you had lots of issues with your gun. i haven't had one single hiccup yet. i know that some guns require being broken in before they function well. oil definitely would help. make sure the mag isn't jammed up too far. maybe while at home try charging it for awhile, like pulling the bolt back and forth to try and break it in manually. look for any imperfections on the bolt, anything that would cause tons of friction or stop it from working. good luck! let me know what happens

Jerry Rivas

Bought mine today. $519.95 @ Eds gun shop in Vass NC. I don't think you can beat those prices anywhere.

God gave me handguard removal tools at the end of my wrists but some guys prefer devices.

Andrew Duffey

Also have an Oracle, its a great rifle. Where did you get the QD mount for the Bushnell?

Any chance you can remember who made the rail you bought? There are a lot of options in the $25-30 price range on Amazon, but I want something tried and tested. It should be in your order history.

Cory T

lol, i have that exact same buttstock plate, for a one point sling on my oracle

Thats not to let access gases out that's a pen to hold the gas tube in

"Beer And Bones"

Thanks for your response. Ok, cool good to know. People who have them seem to like them. Or they strip them down and replace the guts and furniture.. Good video.

Rob Sgt.Airborne

Bought mine and picked it up yesterday. $583.00 + $25.00 for the background check. Not the 1st AR I have ever owned, more like the 12th Lol.

okay, sooo i jus purchased this rifle at a gun show without due diligence! How ever it was noted ont he tag as 5.56  While closely observing the weapon i seen it labeled as 223/5.56..  Im not smart but would it be safe to assume i can use either type ammo thru same barrel?

it's carbine length. i highly recommend the oracle. some people hate on them but i still have never had a problem. i absolutely love my gun. i shot a friends sig 556 and it's nice however it weighs a ton. i paid half the cost and it's just as good as any other. i got mine from surplus ammo dot com. i think they're currently about 650 or 700. goodluck. have fun! it's worth it.

Fantastic review!! I was looking at the Sportical until I saw this video. Thanks.

@gerberboy0100 i like it just fine. i don't really have any heat stringing problems. my red dot is set pretty high and so its not really affected. i suggest the lighter one. dunno what your application will be if just for target or what, but it dose great for me. very accurate too. obviously no rapid fire with any gun will be too accurate farther than 50 yards. except a 22 maybe lol.

I have this AR. It is the best value around. Accurate as hell. Only changed Handgaurd and Buttstock.

Keith Whisman

That's standard A2 type compensated flash suppressor. If you ask the Brady folks would have you believe that makes the weapon even more deadly.

Excellent video. About to purchase mine in the next couple of weeks.

The hole in the gas block is where the roll pin is that holds the gas tube in place. It is not there to relieve excess gas. A lot of people don't like DPMS because they are made from the cheapest parts possible and should never be compared to LWRC. I'm glad you like it though.

My ? is what is an oracal? how do you know if you have this model, mine looks like yours but nothing onit says Orical. Mine does have a K at the end of serial number which means it was built by someone other than DPS

thanks! my father in law has the sportical; we went shooting just a few days ago and he was having problems with it cycling. we put a bunch of oil in it but still no cycling. we figured it was the gas tube connection to the bolt but he's just going to send it in. the oracle is at surplus ammo.com for $650. the price has jumped $100 since i bought it there because prices on all firearms and ammo is going up. anyway, goodluck to ya.

Michael Coberley

Nice vid. I'm looking into getting the Oracle as well. Actually pretty set on it. Another guy I found on here has a really nice one and does awesome "How To" videos. Check him out. "thearmorychannel".

Went to a gun dealer a few weeks ago and seen this rifle for $699 I thought it was a pretty good price considering the circumstances and what I have seen comparable AR-15's go for... Any thoughts?

The major reason why DPMS is cheaper than most, is because they make most every part in house, including their own lowers, which only a handful of companies do. DPMS is an OEM parts maker for ALOT of AR manufacturing companies. Other companies can't compete with them because they have to buy their lowers and parts from other sources, such as DPMS.. DPMS also is now owned by Freedom Group witch also owns Bushmaster.

i absolutely love it. it's still working as if it was brand new. not one single malfunction of any kind so far. i've had it a few months and use almost only steel cased ammo. brass cased is definitely more accurate out of this rifle but steel is cheaper. i highly recommend it. if anyone says DPMS isn't a great company, just challenge them to a reliability test against their gun, it'll do just fine.

Michael Underhill

You said the collapsible stock , is depressed when you shoot. Is it possible to make a hard plastic wedge,to mount in the recess. This would stop the stock from collapsing

scott la Dow

I don't clean mine but every other time I shoot and I keep it well lubed and I have had 0 issues with my DPMS AR15

and do you know what's funny, it would still then be more expensive than this one! A LOT MORE

NiveK Music

was this a parts kit and a build or did they sell the complete rifle?

@manueldsalinas2147 thanks for the reminder. i always get my words mixed up when i make my vids.

Mr.CP , I'm an AK guy ( 47's , 74's , NHM91's , etc . )  - twice your age at least , but I've been talked into getting back into AR's by the grandsons . They don't like the recoil from my HK91A4 , and I've been told only the bad guys use AK's . I'll trade some safe queen trade bait for a DPMS Oracle . What type of Bushnell sight did you stick on that Mattel ( won't shoot through a cinder block ) plastic toy ? I jest - my wife will get a big kick out of shooting it as well . ** READ ** - Real men shoot .30 caliber ( minimum ) ... the ONLY reason the 5.56 and 5.45 were invented was to satisfy the " LGTB" community . Next they'll demand they are all painted PINK !! I'm gettin' old , indulge me , I mean no insult _ just talkin' guns and havin' fun . Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your loved ones ! Happy Chanakah to me ( aint Jewish , just like Mogen - David ) ... Prost !
